Getting Ready for the Mohammed Alhamadani Family

The outreach teams of St. David's and Holy Trinity churches in Lincoln are co-sponsoring an Iraqi family resettling in Lincoln. The Alhamadani family has arrived and are now settled into their new apartment. This is a cooperative outreach effort between St. David's and Holy Trinity, and a wonderful way to show forth the opportunity for rebirth and the new life of Easter. The first month's rent and groceries are funded jointly by the outreach teams at St. David's and Holy Trinity; furniture (graciously donated by Don & Nan Hanway) and other household items are either donated or collected from Lutheran Family Services (LFS). LFS will also help enroll the boys in school and arrange for job training for Mohammed. We (volunteers from both churches) will be asked to help them acclimate - from grocery shopping to making appointments. Please consider volunteering when asked.
Getting Ready
Jo Bomberger, Zoe & Michael Holland prepare the new apartment with food.

Ministry Opportunities

We encourage lay persons to actively participate in our worship and liturgy through ministries:
  • Lay persons - are elected and work with the Vestry and minister to oversee the management and ministry of St. David’s, including the development of new ministries to the community and congregation.
  • Acolytes, Lay Eucharistic Ministers, and Lectors – actively assist in all aspects of our worship including reading Scripture and assisting the minister.
  • The Prayer Chain - offers intercession and prayer for those known and unknown in need of God’s grace and healing.
  • The Altar Guild - regularly assists the minister in preparing for worship.
  • Men’s and Women’s Groups – meet regularly for fellowship, mission work, and spiritual nurture/study.

Opportunities for youth include:
  • Summer camp opportunities – for all ages. Youth attended two camps this summer in Nebraska.
  • Youth mission trip – Sierra Schaaf represented St. David’s this summer with a group of youth from congregations across Nebraska to assist with ministry and projects in the Dominican Republic.
  • Youth activities with others – including ‘Happening’ (a renewal movement for teens).
  • Opportunities for study and discussion of everyday issues and Christian responses in the Rite - 13 study format.
