News and Events

1. Thanks to our many volunteers, St. David's had another wonderful Vacation Bible School this year. In the program, modeled after C.S. Lewis's book The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, children entered through the 'wardrobe' for activities, music, and program.
2. Ron Anderson will speak at a meeting of the St David's ECW (Episcopal Church Women) on Saturday, 9/13/08 from 9-10 am in the parish hall. Ron is a motivational speaker, currently working through the Human Resource department at BLGHE. He has given multiple classes and lectures on getting the spark back into the work place.
3. The 'Congregation as Choir' program (an opportunity for singing, learning new music, rehearsing worship music, and learning vocal technique) is 'moving' from Sunday mornings to Wednesday evenings (following our mid-week contemporary worship service). Under the leadership of Dr. Ben Carlisle, we are guided through old favorites and new discoveries. Join us at 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday, beginning September 10th. No singing experience or knowledge is required or expected.
4. During September:
- Dr. Ben Carlisle will begin our 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship with prelude music for harpsichord.
- Psalter selections will be chosen from The Portland Psalter.
- Music from a variety of settings, including a Puerto Rican folk song sung in Spanish, an organ duet, and other exciting new music.
5. We are pleased to welcome guests to St. David's during September:
- September 14: A representative from the Gideon's will share with us news about this ministry.
- September 21: The Rev. Richard Odgers, retired United Methodist pastor, will be our guest preacher at both 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. worship services.
- September 28: The Rev. Canon Tim Anderson, Executive Director of the Clarkson Foundation (Diocese of Nebraska) and Canon for Development will preach at both worship services.
6. St. David's will begin offering Sunday worship at the Homestead Nursing Home one Sunday afternoon each month -- a time of singing, scripture reading, short reflection, and prayer, with Communion for those who wish.
7. Our garden is growing – each year St. David’s offers space for the community to plant garden vegetables.
